Put TowingNearMe on your home screen
Add a TowingNearMe icon to your phone so it opens in one tap, like an app. There is nothing to download from an app store, it takes about a minute, and it works for drivers and for tow operators.
First, open the right page
The icon opens the page you were on when you added it, so open the one you will want each time:
- Drivers: www.towingnearme.app (the page where you ask for help).
- Tow operators: www.towingnearme.app/operator/duty. Sign in first, so the icon opens your Duty screen.
Then follow the steps for your phone below.
iPhone (Safari)
- Open the page in Safari. A link opened inside another app (Messages, Facebook, Mail) won't show the option, so open it in Safari first.
- Tap the Share button: a square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen (at the top on an iPad). On some iPhones it is inside the ••• menu next to the address bar.
- Scroll the list and tap Add to Home Screen. If you don't see it, tap More or scroll further down.
- Check the name (it says TowingNearMe; you can change it), then tap Add at the top right.
- The icon is now on your Home Screen. It may be on your last page, so swipe left to find it. Tap it to open.
Using Chrome on an iPhone? Tap the Share button next to the address bar and choose Add to Home Screen.
Android (Chrome)
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots menu at the top right of the screen.
- Tap Add to Home screen. On some phones this says Install app.
- Check the name, then tap Add (or Install). If it asks, tap Add automatically, or press and hold the icon and drop it where you want it.
- Find the icon on your home screen, or in your app list. Tap it to open.
Using Samsung Internet? Tap the menu (three lines), then Add page to, then Home screen.
If something doesn't work
- I can't find the option. Make sure you are in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android), not inside another app, and not in a private or incognito tab.
- The icon opens the wrong page. Remove it (below), open the page you want in your browser, and add it again.
- To remove it. Press and hold the icon, then tap Remove App and Delete from Home Screen on iPhone, or Remove on Android.
- Operators: you still need to sign in. If the Duty screen asks for your phone and PIN, enter them as usual. Keep the app open while you are on duty; text alerts are optional and can arrive late.
